A late 16th century house and largely 20th century garden, that is the country estate of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It is internationally significant not only for its collections but also for its scientific research and plant conservation. The glorious gardens, wetland and woodland contain a rich collection of plants from around the world. The gardens were largely created by Gerald Loder (the future Lord Wakehurst), who acquired the estate in 1903 and designed and stocked the gardens over the next 33 years.
