SMO GALLERY
Located in the Karantina area, near the port of Beirut in Lebanon, Smo gallery features the works of young and established contemporary designers. Smo gallery focuses on unique and limited edition works, exploring the movement of boundaries between contemporary art, design and architecture; three disciplines that nurture and shape the new territories of design.
GDC interiors: Why PAD?
Justice Despretz: Because its a fair specialising in design. People who come here are interested in design, know about it and live with it in their daily lives. London is a good place for design.
GDC interiors: What are the highlights of your stand?
Justice Despretz: The ‘Onyx Stone Light’ by an Iranian duo Mehran Gharleghi & Amin Sadeghy. ‘Introvert Onyx’ explores the inversion of the outside and inside, which is a typical feature of Middle Eastern architecture particularly with features like the central courtyard.
I would also point out ‘Marguuerite Des Sable’ by architect and designer Georges Mohasseb. We exhibited a smaller piece in Paris which was voted one of the best pieces at PAD. So this year we decided to do a bigger one with different levels made of 1,500 daisies with welded stems and hand hammered hearts.
GDC interiors: Other PAD London exhibitors you admire?
Justice Despretz: 88 Gallery and Maria Wettergren Gallery
