AMMANN GALLERY

Based in Germany. Gabrielle Ammann established her gallery in 2006, setting the intersection between architecture, fine art and design as the cornerstone of its programme. As an interior designer and consultant, she has worked in the field since 1989 and has initiated and supported a wide range of exhibitions and projects, collaborating with internationally renowned architects and designers.

GDC interiors: Why PAD?

Gabrielle Ammann: PAD is one of my favorite fairs because it has an absolutely eclectic and splendid mix of different genres of art like fine art, design, decorative arts. which really fits with my gallery vision as I am exploring the interferences between architecture, fine art and design. so we love this art fair.

GDC interiors: What are the highlights of your stand?

Gabrielle Ammann: The photograph of London based photographer Hélène Binet of the ‘Jewish Museum’ (architecture by Daniel Libeskind). I am also proud that she is in a fantastic group show, ‘Constructing worlds: photography and architecture in modern age” at the Barbican Art Gallery in London (25th September 2014 till 11th January 2015), in which she is exhibiting a smaller version of this work.

The resin pieces are by an Italian artist group called Studio NUCLEO the Turin based design collective.  NUCLEO are a group of architects, designers and artists. As a group they play to the past as well as to the future. With an original approach to resin, Nucleo has produced new artistic works. Their big dining or conference table called ’Resin Fossil Table’ is made of resin and fibreglass. this table is an innovative exploration in architectonic forms and materials. No one can work resin quite the way they do and the table is an amazing beauty that works amazingly with the changing light.

In conjunction with these new design works from the studio, the gallery is also showing a hyper-realistic painting of the ’Double Pages’ series, ’Last Supper’ by founding member Stefania Fersini. The juxtaposition of the design pieces with the painting illustrates the collaborative spirit that NUCLEO maintains in all of its endeavours. (See main featured image above)

GDC interiors: Other PAD London exhibitors you admire?

Gabrielle Ammann: I like the Maria Wettergren gallery, who has an excellent programme. I also like Friedman Benda gallery who always brings very exciting pieces every year.
