Hotel Edison, New York
The Edison was originally built in 1931 in much the same grand Art Deco style as the famed Radio City Music Hall. Both in the architecture and interior design you find the characteristic Art Deco clash of lines and curves in bold themes and patterns. The Edison brings together old Hollywood and old New York styles and this is most striking in the lobby area with its rounded velvet sofas and armchairs, a starburst terrazzo floor design and brass handrails. Many original features have survived including the softly glowing 1930s light fixtures and spectacular Art Deco mosaics and murals. The hotel is currently undergoing a much needed renovation.
